With relationships, communication is key. Whether you’re bickering with your partner or trying to navigate a tricky conversation with a family member or coworker, effective communication is essential.

If you find yourself in this situation, there are three words that can be important to remember:

“I love you.” Maybe you are right, but remind yourself of your partner’s good qualities and your shared commitment. This can help you to approach the conflict with patience and understanding.

Break the cycle of cutting each other’s throat.

You do not have to do life alone.
