Rediscovering Your Talents, Treasures and Dreams

You are so much more than the sum of your past. You are a unique human being, created by God with a unique purpose. You may not know yourself well enough to be familiar with your talents and treasures.

You may have experienced such devastating disappointment that you dare not dream grand dreams for your life. It isn’t easy to take hold of your talents, treasures, and dreams when you are preoccupied with avoiding your inner life, guarding your heart against further injury, and pretending to be someone you’re not.

But it is possible to reclaim your life and live in the fullness of who you were created to be. It begins with a decision to no longer be defined by your past, but to allow your future to be shaped by the One who knows you best.

It requires taking some risks and stepping out in faith. But it is worth it, because when you discover who you really are, you will find life to be infinitely more beautiful, satisfying, and fulfilling than you ever imagined possible.

One important facet of gaining power over codependency is venturing into the uncharted waters of your unlived life. A fulfilling life is more than just recovering from the effects the behavior of others has had on you and reclaiming those parts of life you have been cut off from.

Life, as I uniquely expressed it in you, must involve self-expression. You must choose and dare to live out your unique purpose and design.

Everyone has talents, treasures, and dreams. Talents are your inborn abilities. You may have a talent for art, music, athletics, mathematics, writing, dance, or drama. Perhaps your talent lies in mechanical abilities or relating to children.

Talents can be developed but not gained. Treasures are your favorite things. Things you value for whatever reason or for no particular reason. Treasure is a treasure just because you appreciate it. Dreams hold tremendous power when they are the vehicles that let you envision yourself in a healthier way of life.

If you grew up in a dysfunctional or addictive family system, your talents, treasures, and dreams were probably discounted or even forbidden. When life is consumed with surviving, there is little done to nurture the heartfelt desires of a child.

You can give yourself permission to pursue your talents, treasures, and dreams, even if no one else ever has. Gaining power over regardless of what has happened to you.
